ITF Action Day TUI 2004
What is the action day about?
On 24 November 2004 trade unions all over Europe will take part in a Special Day of Action to highlight the need for social justice in TUI.

It is about the employees of the TUI group. Discontent is rising within the TUI family because
- A No-Strike-Breaking Agreement is still not on the table.
- The “Challenge” project endangers maintenance and job perspectives.
- In Sweden, jobs are continuously disappearing.
- In Great Britain, Britannia UK and ThomsonFly operate parallel, and the cheaper of the two operations seems to grow at the expense of the “classic” operation.
- In France, Corsair has lost the umbrella of Nouvelles Frontieres.
In light of this development, the members of the TUI Airline Union Coalition are very concerned. Unions urge management to put life into the slogan of TUI being the world’s most employee-friendly airline group.
Why an international campaign?
Unions in Europe are already involved in national activities to address the issue. This Action Day aims to support those activities. An international Action Day aims to attract international attention and will illustrate the fact that this is a problem not confined to one country. It is experienced in numerous countries in many parts of Europe. We encourage all unions to make prominent the demand for a national and an international approach to the issue.
Who does the Action Day target?
TUI staff
At the centre of the campaign are the employees of the airlines. Jobs and job prospects need protection, as do pensions. Only in a stable group of airlines, under the roof of TUI, can this be best guaranteed.
The traveling public
The passengers of the airlines, friends and family of employees, and the interested public can support the idea of a good working environment in TUI. Passenger attitudes could be another key to making a difference to the Action Day.
The media
Broadcasters and newspapers are important allies in this Action Day. Unions need to brief the media about the issues and ensure that press know whom to contact with queries.
